Monologue

Dr. Peter Glidden fills in for Dr. Wallach starting the show citing a list of all the famous people who have died in recent months. Asserting that many of these if not all would still be here if they hadn't followed MD advice. Contending that Dick Clark, Neil Armstrong and Andy Rooney quite likely died due to medical mistakes.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Glidden discuss two news article concerning phthalates. Chemicals primarily used in the making of common household products that are made of plastic. In 2008 the government banned the use of these chemicals in children's toys and teething rings because of a potential for phthalates to leach out if the plastic is chewed or sucked on. Researchers at Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health did a study of nearly 250 children and found that all had trace amounts of phthalates in their urine. Phthalates have been linked to an increased risk of asthma, disruption of the endocrine system and prenatal exposure linked to childhood eczema.
