Pearls of Wisdom
Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study on angioplasty procedures. The study found that one out of every seven patients that had non-emergency angioplasty did not meet the criteria for the procedure. Also based on guidelines from the American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology there was uncertainty whether the stent inserting surgery was appropriate in another half of patients. Doug asserts they reason is because these procedures cost between $12,000 and $15,000 compared to a few hundred for other treatments such as medications.
