Researchers found that heart patients undergoing non-emergency bypass surgery who were given curcumin (the yellow pigment in the spice turmeric) before and after surgery had a reduced risk of post surgery heart attack. Half of the patients were given 4 grams of curcumin three days before surgery and five days following. The other half of the patients were given a placebo. Researchers determined those getting curcumin had a 65% reduced risk of a heart attack.
