Monologue

Dr. Wallach returns from his trip to Japan.  Citing a recent news article in a Japanese health publication that discusses the state of the healthcare system in Japan.  Although the Japanese always rank higher in health and longevity the aritcle pointed to several areas where the Japanese system is starting to mirror the U.S. system.  The article also outlines several areas where the U.S. system is "broken".

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine.  The first located in the Netherland found that 75% of people surveyed who had sciatic nerve problems found the malady improved without surgery.  The second study found that 75% of people who elected to decline surgery for degenerative spondylolisthesis were able recover.
