While a BMI over 30 is considered obese. The man suffered a pulmonary embolism and nearly died. While in the hospital his doctors tried to get him to agree to weight loss surgery. He refused as he knew others that had under gone the surgery and suffered from complications. He eventually got down to 300 using caloric control and exercise. But it was a daily struggle to stay on the diet because he was not on the 90 essential nutrients.
