Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing news article regarding about an award given out for genome research on longevity. Doc contends that longevity has little to do with genetics, education, wealth or access to healthcare. Asserting that the people who live the longest mostly come from third world countries.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey discusses two news articles concerning antidepressant medications. The first story is in regards to a report from the CDC earlier this year that found more than 1 in 10 in the U.S. take antidepressants. Considering these drugs links to suicidal thought this is alarming. However, even worse the second story concerns a study using data from FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System listed 10 legal prescription drugs linked to increased violent behavior. Of these top 10 drugs listed in the study 5 are antidepressants all commonly prescribed drugs.
