Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts todays show discussing his belief that orthopedic surgeons "game the system". By giving patients pain killers until the patients demand more. So the surgeons then schedule joint surgery to fix the problem. Doc then cites a Harvard study that contends that joint surgery to relieve pain are useless.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news articles on common drinks that have effects on health. The first article concerns a study done at the Brigham and Womens Hospital that found drinking coffee reduces the risk of basal cell carcinoma. Next they discuss another study done at Harvard's School of Public health. This study found that teens who drank five or more sodas a week were more inclined to exhibit violent behaviors and carry weapons compared to peers who drank one soda or less.
