Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing young athletes who are dying from cardiomyopathy heart attackts during or after sports. Doc contends this doesn't have to happen because it is preventable. Contending the cause is a trace mineral selenium deficiency and that sports doctors have it all wrong.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding macular degeneration drug treatments. The study found that when doctors don't use a mask and talk during the procedure the risk of an eye infection goes up dramatically. The infection call endophthalmitis can cause complete blindness in a worst case scenario. This occurs once in every few thousand injections but since these patients usually need frequent injections that number is one in 200. Doc contends these injections are unnecessary because he believes macular degeneration is caused by nutritional deficiencies.
