Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a few employers such as Cisco Systems and the state of Minnesota that are laying off thousands of employees. Stating that with the current status of the economy and sluggish job market now is a great time to start a small business. Outlining several of the advantages to owning a business such as multiple income streams and tax write offs.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two news stories concerning medical mistakes. The first concerns an anlysis of the "July effect" this is in reference to what happens in July when all of the new medical school trainees hit teaching hospitals. The is an increase in deaths, longer surgeries, longer hospital stays and higher hospital charges. The next story concerns a Florida doctor in trouble with the state medical board. He is being investigated over the deaths of 34 of his patients in four month period.
