The owner of a pit bull that viciously attacked a woman and her dog in Gilroy last week may not have done anything that warrants arrest, Gilroy Police say. The attack occurred in a Starbucks parking lot on First Street, and resulted in the euthanizing of a Daschund and the severe, non-life threatening injury of the little dog’s owner. Witnesses say the owner of the pit bull quickly left once the attack began, and police are still searching for him. The pit bull will be euthanized because of the vicious nature of the attack. It is unclear, however, whether the owner knew that the dog was capable of such violence, which, according to California Law is punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.
