It has been four months since Dane Elkins, a 22-year-old UC Santa Cruz engineering student, went missing. But reports of a possible sighting has given his family and friends new hope that he will be found safe.
The Los Angeles Police Department has been the main agency handling the case.
Two people reported see ing Elkins in Mojave in February but said they did not realize the person they spoke to was missing until later. They said the person they spoke to said he was on his way to Portland, Oregon.
Although they have not been confirmed, Dane’s mother says there have been some reports of sightings of him in in the Bakersfield area. She believes he may now be traveling in the Santa Cruz area or as far north as Oregon.
