an appeal to allow late-night hours and entertainment options for a downtown santa cruz restaurant was denied by the santa cruz city council. the cypress lounge was allowed extended hours and dancing in 2009. in 2010, police calls for service at the restaurant rose to 57 from 10 in previous years. the city council unanimously agreed to revoke the entertainment permit but allow for light music, and to allow the union street location to accept food orders until 11 p.m. on weekends.
