The State Commission voted today to approve a proposed regional seawater desalination plant in Monterey County. The project, known as The Regional Project, is expected to produce 10-million gallons of water per day. California American Water is in the process of collaborating with the Monterey County Water Resources Agency and the Marina Coast Water District, where the project is expected to operate from, about providing a replacement source of water for Peninsula customers facing a state-ordered reduction in pumping from the Carmel River. The project will still need to be reviewed by the California Coastal Commission.
