A BAY AREA COUPLE, ERIC AND LORI LOCHTEFELD, ANNOUNCED TODAY (MON) THAT THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF PURCHASING THE HISTORIC 1926 GOLDEN GATE THEATRE IN DOWNTOWN MONTEREY. THE COUPLE’S PLANS INCLUDE USING THE VENUE FOR LIVE MUSIC, COMEDY SHOWS, THEATRICAL PERFORMANCES, AND PRIVATE EVENTS, AMONG OTHERS. THE THEATRE PROPERTY ALSO INCLUDES OFFICE SPACE AND FIVE STOREFRONTS , THAT ARE CURRENTLY OCCUPIED. (THE LOCHTEFELDS PURCHASED THE HISTORIC FOX THEATRE IN REDWOOD CITY IN 2010 WHICH REPORTEDLY HELPED TO REVITALIZE THE DOWNTOWN AREA THERE) THIS NEWS COMES AS THE MONTEREY CITY COUNCIL ARE PREPARING FOR A TOWN HALL MEETING TOMORROW (TUES) NIGHT TO DISCUSS THE FUTURE OF THE THEATRE, WHICH HAS BEEN UNCERTAIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE LOCHTEFELDS WILL TAKE OVER OPERATIONS ON APRIL FIRST.
