A salinas city councilman who failed to meet the filing- requirements to seek re-election, will instead run for mayor. After 3-terms as a city councilman, Sergio sanchez was informed that he had not turned in enough valid signatures ahead of last Friday’s deadline. However, the deadline to submit paperwork to run for mayor is not until wednesday, so sanchez plans to seek that role instead. Mayor dennis Donahue is not seeking re-election.
Meanwhile, in santa cruz county, many county positions and positions in cities around the county have had their filing-date extended. The deadline is now august 18th to file paperwork to enter those respective races.
