A controlled burn on a private property in eureka canyon grew out of control on Saturday. Firefighters from cal-fire responded to the 2:40 p.m. blaze. They were aided by fire crews from neighboring districts. The fire was controlled by 6:30 p.m. No injuries were reported. The burn was reportedly being conducted without proper clearance from surrounding vegetation. Today, april 30th, is the last day form open burns in unincorporated areas of santa cruz county.
