Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Explaining she was a typical teen girl just trying to be skinny. It wasn't until the cancer metastasized to her eye and ovaries that she got a cancer diagnosis. Only to lose her life a couple of months after the diagnosis.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show today discussing failed medical theories. Going back to when people believed that disease was caused by evil spirits. Many later believed it was whether the Gods like them or not. Then it was the four basic humours were out of balance which led to blood letting. Later on it was bacteria, then viruses and now genetic. Doc asserts they are all failed theories and disease is linked to inflammation which is due to nutritional deficiencies.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about a study of fast food. Researchers gave a group of South Africans a fast food diet of meat and fried foods for two weeks. At the same time they gave African American in Pittsburgh a typical African diet of cornmeal, porridge and root vegetables. After two weeks the group eating the western diet were producing half of a substance called butyrate which helps the body reduce inflammation. The group eating the African diet their microbiomes were producing twice the amount of butyrate than before the change.

First cut back on work a University of California found those working 41 or more hours per week can increase blood pressure. Exercise such as a brisk 30 minute walk daily can help lower blood pressure. Using stress relieving methods such as deep breathing, meditating or yoga can lower blood pressure. Wrongly the article recommends reducing salt to lower blood pressure. Doc explains why lowering sodium intake is bad because it can disrupt the digestive process.
