The Captain of the scuba diving boat that burned and sank off the coast of California in September of 2019, pleaded “not guilty” yesterday in a federal court. Jerry Boylan is accused of failing to follow appropriate safety rules….even before the boat caught on fire. If he is found guilty, Boylan faces a potential 10 year prison term for each of the 34 counts of Seaman’s Manslaughter. The fire on the Conception led to one of the deadliest maritime disasters in recent U.S. History. Boylan and 4 other crew members, who were sleeping above board, escaped from the boat.
