Dr. Peter Glidden fills in for Dr. Wallach starting the show discussing the failed medical system. Asserting that cholesterol lowering drugs are not slowing rates of heart disease in the U.S. These statin drugs are the biggest selling drugs world wide and netting pharmaceutical companies 25$ billion in the U.S. alone.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Glidden discuss a news article concerning a CDC study on cholesterol levels lowering in the last two decades. Using government data researchers determined that overall blood cholesterol levels of dropped over the past twenty years. Attributing the drop to lifestyle changes of avoiding trans fats and taking lipid reducing drugs. Doug and Dr. Glidden ask if this is such a good thing why hasn't the rates of heart disease also dropped.

Sex abuse arrest 10/18/12 6:30p.m. TDH

A salinas man was arrested Wednesday night on suspicion of sexually abusing a child.  A resident at a north pearl street apartment complex called police, after allegedly witnessing the abuse taking place in a laundry room.  Ray Garcia was arrested on 2-counts of sexual abuse of a child.  He was booked into monterey county jail.

 

Murder trial ordered 10/18/12 6p.m. TDH

4-men have been ordered to stand trial in connection with the murder of a 14-year-old watsonville boy.   19-year-old alexis Rodriguez and 20-year-old david Moreno sanchez are facing murder and attempted murder charges, while 2-others are facing charges of being accessories after the crimes occurred.  (a 5th man has already pleaded guilty to being an accessory).   The charges relate to the shooting death of jesse lopez, who was gunned down last December outside a birthday party in watsonville.   the 4-men are scheduled to return to a santa cruz county courtroom October 31st for an arraignment hearing.

 

Heroin sales arrest (MCO) 10/18/12 6:30p.m. TDH

A 20-year-old woman was arrested in monterey county Wednesday allegations of drug sales.  salinas resident Carolina Hernandez uribe was allegedly found with more than a pound of heroin, along with a large amount of cash, and was arrested by monterey county sheriff’s deputies. Uribe was booked into monterey county jail on charges of possession of heroin with intent to sell.

 

Head-on wreck, minor inj. 10/18/12 6p.m. TDH

A head-on collision occurred this afternoon near the monterey-san benito county line.  the wreck was reported at about 3:40 p.m.     the vehicles collided on upper san juan grade road (near crazy horse canyon road), leaving   2-children with minor injuries.  the cause of the accident is under investigation.
