a man was found shot to death in salinas saturday afternoon, and police are looking for the suspects.    salinas police officers responded to the report of shots fired at 4:15 p.m.     when officers arrived at a house on 7-hundred block of las casitas drive, they found a man who had been shot multiple times.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.  the homicide comes just days after 22-year-old richard pimentel was gunned down on north main street.  authorities are urging anyone with information on either incident to call the salinas police department, or, to report tips anonymously, call 1-800-78-CRIME.

A fire broke out late friday night at a prunedale house.  the flames erupted at a vacant 2-story house at ridgecrest and vega roads, before spreading to nearby vegetation.  firefighters from cal-fire, watsonville, aromas, and north monterey county fire departments helped contain the blaze to the area surrounding the one house, (which was being remodeled).  Neighbors were safely evacuated during the incident—No injuries were reported; the cause is under investigation.

1-of the men who escaped last week from (rountree medium security jail near watsonville)  has been re-arrested.   2-other people have also been taken into custody in connection with 29-year-old bryan matthew martin's escape.  martin fled tuesday from the detention center, along with another man, 22-year-old blaine richard collamore.  collamore remains missing, but martin was spotted thursday night in santa cruz, and was taken into custody.  32-year-old daniel ballard and 25-year-old stephanie underwood were arrested for trying to help the 2-escape.

an inmate at salinas valley state prison was stabbed to death on saturday.  2-other inmates are believed to attacked the man, sparking a fight in the yard of the soledad prison.   4-inmates were injured in the subsequent fight; 2 were air-lifted to outside hospitals.   The incident remains under investigation.
