Monologue

Dr. Wallach discusses a couple of news items including the new drug release from MERCK that is supposed to aid in pain relief.  It's called ARKOCIA and Doc says it's just as bad as Vioxx.  Doc also points the warning signs of childhood obesity.  Doc also reports 65 year old plus patients are significantly more likely to have presciption errors than other patients.

Billy Graff fills in for Doug Winfrey. He and Dr. Wallach discuss a new study on aroma therapy. Doc talks about ancient legacy essential oils apply to the study.

Dr. Wallach discusses the growing problem of weight gain and obesity in America.  The problem is so bad worldwide that some health experts say it is a pandemic worse than the bird flu.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news article concerning anesthesiology.  There is a growing trend of "outiside-the-operating-room" procedures such as angiograms, liposuction, face-lifts, colonoscopies and endoscopies.  These all require anesthesia but possibly 45% of the time not applied by an anesthesiologist.  A recent study found that "off base" anesthesia has 10 times the risk for the patient for death or permanent injury.
