Two midwives from the Monterey Birth and Wellness Center are under fire from the Medical Board of California Department of Consumer Affairs. A complaint filed with the board alleges Caroline Cusenza and Jacqueline Little face charges of incompetence and failure to provide a physician referral. The charges come from a home delivery in early June. During the birth, paramedics were called to transport a baby to a trauma center and eventually the UC San Francisco Medical Center. That baby died a few days later. Cusenza and Little could potentially have their licenses revoked or suspended by the medical board.
