Dr. Wallach briefly mentions the Virginia Tech campus shooting.  Asserting that these kinds of people are predictable if you know what to look for before a bad incident occurs.  Doc then discusses the recent death of entertainer Don Ho, who died this week from a heart attack.  Prior to the heart attack Ho had a pace maker installed and under went stem cell therapy.  Doc asserts that if the entertainer had been given the right nutrients he might still be singing "Tiny Bubbles".

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news stories.  The first concerns a doctor in Oakland, CA whose license was revoked for failing to properly treat a heart attack victim.  Second Doug mentions the most recent attempt by the FDA to make vitamins, minerals, herbs and other forms of alternative health care more controlled.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the school shooting at Virginia Tech University.  All discusses a news article in the health and fitness section where the author says people still believe they can get all the nutrients they need from the basic food groups.   Doc disagrees point out that plants don't make minerals and only have in them what they absorb.  So if the minerals aren't in the soil they won't  be in the foods.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news articles the first concerns research linking compounds in broccoli and soy to slowing cancer growth.  The second story concerns inspections of imported foods.  In the wake of the tainted pet foods this article outlines that only 1.3% of imported foods are inspected.  That means the other 98.7% goes right into our food stream uninspected.  Just last month alone of those that were inspected 850 food shipments of grains, fish, vegatables, nuts, spices, oils and other foods were detained by the FDA.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben discusses a recent news story that cited several studies that found nutritional supplements did nothing to extend life or improve health.  Ben disagrees find several flaws in the studies.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs continue discussing the flaws of these studies suc h did researchers test absorbtion rates of these dietary supplements.  Also discussing a recent court ruling regarding mercury in tooth fillings.

Dr. Wallach starts the show stating that people should be proactive with the health.  Meaning they should take preventative measures to promote good health.  Asserting this can be accomplished with a proper diet and nutritional supplementation.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news articles.  The first concerns a new trend of states passing "I'm sorry" legislations.  These are laws that allow a doctor to say "oops I screwed up and I'm sorry" to patients without fear of those words being used against them in court.  Another news story outlines a report from a lab that found of 20 joint supplements reviewed 40% didn't contain the levels of chondroitin/glucosamine that the labels stated.

Dr. Wallach starts today's show discussing obesity, diabetes and the metabolic syndrome.  Asserting that all of the diseases are the result of nutritional deficiencies.  Outlining how his "Hell's Kitchen" book explains the advent of the upward spiral of these diseases.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news stories.  The first concerns a German research study that found cocoa was much better at reducing hypertension than teas.  Next Doug and Doc talk about a report that indicates that the proportion of obese people 100 pound or more over-weight grew by more than 50% in the past five years.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the most recent U.S. News and World Report that indicates there are 15 million casualties in the medical industry each year.  Also outlining the amount of money spent on health care in this country is in the trillions.  Despite the fact that  Americans still rank 46th in health and longevity when compared to other industrialized nations.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news articile concerning "anesthesia awareness" also known as "unintended intraoperative awareness".  These two terms are used to describe when the anesthesiologist gives you the drug that paralyzes your muscles but does not give you a general anesthesia to put you to sleep.  Leaving the patient awake while they having a procedure performed on their bodies.  Leaving the patient with post traumatic stress syndrome following the surgery.
