SALINAS CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS HAVE DECIDED THEY WILL DO WHATEVER THEY NEED TO, TO GET JOSE CASTANEDA TO PAY THE 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS HE OWES THE CITY. HE WAS ORDERED TO PAY THAT FINE AFTER HE VIOLATED GOVERNMENT CODE 1099, WHEN HE REFUSED TO STEP DOWN FROM HIS ALISAL UNION SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD SEAT, WHEN HE WAS ELECTED TO THE SALINAS CITY COUNCIL.

MAN INJ ON 152 TUES. - 04/23/14 07:03 S.S.

A MAN WAS AIRLIFTED TO A BAY AREA TRAUMA CENTER AFTER HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS TRUCK ON HIGHWAY 152. A PORTION OF THE HECKER PASS HIGHWAY WAS CLOSED WHILE THE MAN WAS EXTRICATED. HE WAS LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION LAST NIGHT.

CANDIDATES FOR THE OFFICES OF MONTEREY COUNTY SHERIFF, SUPERIOR COURT JUDGE, AND THE 2ND DISTRICT SUPERVISOR WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ANSWER QUESTIONS POSED TO THEM BY THE PUBLIC.   THE FORUM IS SLATED TO BE HELD FROM 6:30 TO 9 P-M, AT THE NATIONAL STEINBECK CENTER (WHICH IS LOCATED AT NUMBER 1 MAIN STREET IN SALINAS).

THE DROUGHT-STRICKEN CENTRAL COAST WILL SOON BE RECEIVING EMERGENCY FOOD AID.   SINCE EMERGENCY DROUGHT RELIEF LEGISLATION PASSED LAST MONTH, THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES HAS BEEN GATHERING SHIPMENTS OF FOOD.    FOOD ASSISTANCE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR MONTEREY, SANTA CRUZ, AND SAN BENITO COUNTIES AT LOCAL FOOD BANKS BEGINNING IN EARLY MAY.

SALINAS VALLEY'S LARGEST TURBINE- 04-22-14 20:00 SG

THE CITY OF SOLEDAD IS CURRENTLY BUILDING WHAT WILL BE THE LARGEST WIND TURBINE IN SALINAS VALLEY.   OFFICIALS ANNOUNCED YESTERDAY (TUES) THAT WORK HAS BEGUN TO CONSTRUCT THE TURBINE, WHICH IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE OVER THREE MILLION KILOWATT HOURS OF ENERGY.   THE TURBINE WILL OFFSET USAGE AT THE NEARBY WATER FACILITY, SAVING MONEY FOR ENERGY CUSTOMERS.    THE PROJECT IS EXPECTED TO BE COMPLETED BY THE END OF SUMMER.
