My Name is Jonty McCollyer, Director of Digital Media for KSCO.
A friend recently forwarded me a provocative video presentation called "Changing Paradigms" by Sir Ken Robinson.
Watch it below.. You won't regret it.
In the presentation, besides providing a scathing critique of the medicalization of school children and standardized testing, Ken said something that struck me as an extremely important concept. He said that "most great learning happens in groups". That comment turned on a lightbulb in my mind.
Later that week MZ told me that he'll be out of town for the Saturday Special and asked me if I had any ideas. Well here it is:
What does it mean to be smart, to be intelligent, or have a high IQ? More over, is that the wrong question?!? Rather than ask, how smart any individual is, shouldn't we ask how smart the group is? Couldn't a low IQ scoring individual with the right attitude raise the intelligence of a group? How is a groups intelligence effected by a highly intelligent individual who simply wants to hear them self talk?
Since KSCO enjoys the participation and support of the most intelligent audience in radio, let's figure it out together on the Saturday Special. 10AM - Noon this Saturday September 24th.
