A SEARCH WARRANT WAS REPORTEDLY SERVED AT A HOME ON 37TH AVENUE (IN THE LIVE OAK AREA OF SANTA CRUZ) THIS MORNING. WHAT K-S-C-O HAS BEEN TOLD IS THAT THE SANTA CRUZ COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE WAS ASSISTING THE F-B-I WITH AN INVESTIGATION. NEIGHBORS IN THE AREA SAID THAT FLASH BOMBS WERE USED DURING THE 6 A-M INCIDENT. ALTHOUGH 37TH AVENUE WAS BLOCKED FORT A LITTLE WHILE, IT WAS RE-OPENED TO THROUGH TRAFFIC BEFORE 6:45 A-M.

A MONTEREY SCHOOL BUS DRIVER HAS BEEN SENTENCED FOR FELONY LEWD ACTS AND MISDEMEANOR CRIMINAL THREATS.  31-YEAR-OLD CARLOS DOMINGUEZ RODRIGUEZ THE THIRD WAS SENTENCED TO A YEAR IN CUSTODY AND FELONY PROBATION YESTERDAY (TUES).    THE SALINAS MAN WAS ARRESTED IN OCTOBER AFTER GROPING TWO GIRLS WHILE DRIVING THEM HOME FROM SCHOOL.   RODRIGUEZ ALSO THREATENED TO RAPE ONE OF THE GIRLS.   HE WILL SERVE SIX YEARS IN STATE PRISON IF HE VIOLATES THE TERMS OF HIS PROBATION.

A WATSONVILLE MAN REMAINS IN SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JAIL AFTER BEING LINKED TO SEVERAL STOLEN CARS.   35-YEAR-OLD JOSE LUIS ORTIZ WAS ARRESTED SATURDAY ON SUSPICION OF POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE, BURGLARY, VEHICLE THEFT, ATTEMPTED VEHICLE THEFT, AND A PROBATION VIOLATION. OFFICERS SPOTTED ORTIZ GETTING IN AND OUT OF TWO STOLEN HONDA ACCORDS.   HE WAS LINKED TO A THIRD STOLEN VEHICLE IN THE INVESTIGATION THAT FOLLOWED.   OFFICERS ALSO FOUND ORTIZ IN POSSESSION OF NUMEROUS SHAVED KEYS USED TO STEAL OTHER HONDAS.

SALINAS ANIMAL WELFARE OFFICERS ARE INVESTIGATING THE KILLING OF A DOZEN DUCKS.    THE TWELVE BIRDS WERE FOUND DEAD IN THE POND BEHIND THE CALIFORNIA WELCOME CENTER IN SALINAS YESTERDAY (TUES) MORNING.   THE DUCKS THAT WERE KILLED WERE DOMESTICATED.    A THIRTEENTH DUCK WAS FOUND INJURED.

THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ HAS IMPLEMENTED MORE CHANGES TO THE COUNTY’S NEEDLE EXCHANGE PROGRAM.   THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS APPROVED THE CHANGES YESTERDAY (TUES), INCLUDING REDUCING THE HOURS OF OPERATION AT THE EMELINE AVENUE EXCHANGE FROM FIVE DAYS A WEEK, TO TWO DAYS A WEEK.    SUPERVISORS ALSO APPROVED RESTARTING A NEEDLE HOME DELIVERY PROGRAM AND CREATING KIOSKS AT PHARMACIES.    THE CHANGES AIM TO ADDRESS THE EXCESSIVE LITTERING OF USED SYRINGES IN PUBLIC PARKS, BEACHES, AND NEIGHBORHOODS IN SANTA CRUZ.
