Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach. Ben discusses a couple of news articles the first concerns a study that found the drug Lipitor in high doses reduced the risk of strokes. Ben asserts that although that is true Lipitor also greatly increases the risk of bleeding. The second article is about the 8 foods that cause 90% of the food allergies suffered by 11 million Americans. Ben also discusses the virtues of eating eggs for good health and a boosted immune system.

Dr. Wallach discusses CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) statistics regarding medical mistakes that harm or kill patients.  Over 2 million people aqquire infections while in the hosptial each year, of thos 90,000 die.  A total of 5.8 million casualties in hospitals and clinics each year and no OSHA tickets are handed out.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss three recent studies published in the American Journal of Medical Quality.  Two studies found that the infections caught during hospital stays were more to blame on hospital procedures than how sick the patient was when he or she checked in.  A third study found that the infections actually cost the hospitals money rather than making them money.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben starts the show discussing G.E.R.D. ( gastroesophageal reflux disease).  Ben asserts that this disease is not a problem of too much stomach acid but not enough.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss transfats.  Talking about how many fast food outlets such as;KFC, McDonalds, Burger King etc. are trying to eliminate transfats from their products.  Ben asserts that even with the transfats removed these foods still aren't healthy.
