Dr. Wallach discusses weight loss to start the show.  As many as 85% of Americans who make a New Year's resolution vow to lose weight.  But only a small fraction actually atain their goal.  Dr. Wallach outlines several weight loss strategies and products.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach continue discussing the weight loss topic.  As Doug outlines a couple of news stories the first concerning recent action by the Federal Trade Commision fining four marketers of weight loss products.  The FTC contending the companies made false unsubstantiated claims.  Second Doug and Doc discusss a study done by Cornell University that found many people eating low-fat foods actually got more calories than if they had eaten regular versions.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the health and longevity of Americans.  The U.S. ranks 46th among industrialized nations in health and longevity despite that fact that we as Americans spend more on health care than the other 45 ahead of us combined.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent research studies concerning heart disease.  A recent report from the American Heart Association indicates that heart disease is still the number one killer of Americans.  This despite all of the cholesterol lowering drugs and heart medications not to mention procedures performed each year.  The report also found that cardiovascular disease accounts for one third of all deaths in the U.S.  Another study done at the University of Turin in Italy found that those taking aspirin daily in an effort to reduce heart attack risk who abruptly stopped increased their risk of an adverse event by 300%.

Dr. Wallach discusses New Year's resolutions contending that 85% of people who make them vow to lose weight.  With a huge percentage giving up after just a few weeks of dieting.  Doc contends that his book "Hell's Kitchen" addresses the root cause of obesity and weight gain.  Also outlining several Youngevity products and programs that aid in weight loss.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news story regarding research done at Harvard's School of Medicine.  The research found that mice given resveratrol lived longer despite and unhealthy diet and had increased metabolism, weight loss as well as increased stamina.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach. Ben discusses the increase of diabetes in the U.S. double from what it was in the 1970's. Outlining some of the newly developed drugs to treat the disease. Asserting that these drugs aren't necessary because type II diabetes can be controlled through diet and exercise.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug and Ben continue discussing the diet aspect of controlling diabetes. Ben had previously stated the importance of staying away from grains in the diet of a type II diabetic.
