(06:50) Salinas - A gunman is at large in Salinas.  A 21-year old male was shot around 8:45 last night at Calle Cebu and Sherwood Drive.  Authorities reported that the victim was a passenger in a car stopped at the intersection.  The gunman pulled up alongside the victim in a dark colored sedan and fired one round.  The victim is being treated for non life threatening injuries.  The shooting is being investigated as gang related.  Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Salinas Police Department. 

 

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s bomb squad was called out on Friday. The squad was called to a residence on the 200 block Center Street to examine an apparent explosive device uncovered by Watsonville police executing a search warrant on the premises. No injuries were reported during the incident.

 

 

A Saturday traffic stop led to the recovery of a stolen firearm in Greenfield.  The stop took place on the 200 block of Chardonnay Drive. The occupants were found to be on probation and a compliance search was performed, 23 year old Leonel Gonzales and 21 year old Christopher Ayala were arrested on suspicion of having the loaded gun, gang enhancement and possession of cocaine with intent to sale.

San Benito County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two people in connection with mail theft. Shortly before 10 a.m. Thursday deputies were alerted of a couple taking mail from mail boxes on the 900 block of Cabernet Drive. Police located the suspect vehicle near Tres Pinos and a chase ensued until 31 year old Stephanie Lujan and 34 year old Anthony Torres were taken into custody. A loaded fire arm was also recovered along with narcotics ammunition and nearly 100 pieces of stolen mail from 28 victims in San Benito, Monterey and Santa Clara Counties.

 

 

 

A ROBBERY SUSPECT WAS ARRESTED EARLY SUNDAY IN APTOS.
AT AROUND 1AM, DEPUTIES WERE DISPATCHED TO A ROBBERY THAT OCCURRED ON THE STATE PARK DRIVE OVERPASS. THE VICTIM WAS PUNCHED IN THE FACE BY THE SUSPECT. THE SUSPECT THEN FLED THE AREA WITH THE VICTIM’S BACKPACK. DEPUTIES CONDUCTED AN INVESTIGATION AND OBTAINED A DESCRIPTION OF THE SUSPECT. OFFICERS LOCATED THE SUSPECT ON SEARIDGE ROAD. SCOTT BROWN WAS PLACED UNDER ARREST FOR THE ROBBERY AND BOOKED INTO COUNTY JAIL.

Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s deputies arrest a suspected car thief on Saturday. Following a 4 a.m. report of a stolen vehicle from Little Creek Road in Soquel a patrol unit spotted the vehicle at a convenience store. Officers observed an individual on probation for vehicle theft near by and a compliance search of Giovanni Puga turned up keys to the stolen vehicle. Puga was booked into county jail and the vehicle was returned to its owner.

 

Water supplies in Big Basin State Park have tested at close to double the legal limit for a contaminant. The park has tested positive for TTHMs, a carcinogen,  produced when chlorine interacts with decaying vegetation. The California Stae Parks department is currently working on a solution for treatment of the water supply. The department has until December to resolve the issue.

 

Salinas police are investigating a vehicle theft. Shortly before 8 p.m. a patrol unit was alerted to the 700 block of Bellarmine Drive by an On Star stolen vehicle tracking device. At the scene, officers observed 36 year old Guadalupe Ramirez flee the area. A search found Ramirez  hiding on the roof of a nearby apartment building. He was booked into county jail for resisting arrest, other charges are pending following the completion of an investigation.
