Dr. Pete Keesling - Received his Masters Degree in Nutrition in 1975 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1979 from the University of California, Davis. He has practiced both large and small animal medicine in the rural part of his native Santa Clara County, California for more than 30 years. In 1982, he founded San Martin Veterinary Hospital where his work included caring for everything from family pets, dogs and cats, to livestock including cows, horses, llamas, sheep, goats and pigs.
Pete and his wife, Peg, raised their 3 children (Sarah, Mary, and John) on a small family ranch with many dogs, cats, and rabbits, cavies, poultry, and assorted livestock. He spends time visiting local schools and organizations such as the 4-H club and Future Farmers of America (FFA) helping young people develop their interests in animals. In addition, he was an instructor for 14 years in the Animal Health Technician program at Hartnell College in Salinas, California and was an active member of the advisory board for that program.
For over 11 years, Dr. Pete was co-host of a popular television program "Petpourri" on KTEH, channel 54 in San Jose. Later, he started KSCO radio's Petpourri, heard weekly for many years in Santa Cruz. He has written several internet veterinary advice columns, including one for Disney.com and another for Pets.com. He's also appeared on Bloomberg National Radio as an expert on pet travel. Keesling still writes a bi-weekly veterinary column for the Morgan Hill Times, the Gilroy Dispatch, and the Hollister Freelance. And with his best friend "Pebbles" (an English Bulldog) and kitty cat Rumpy (now almost 20-years-old), Keesling has appeared weekly on ABC television throughout California with his "Vet Tips". But mostly, everyone knows "Dr. Pete" for his enthusiastic love of animals and his desire to help people care for their pets.
