Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Walllach.  Ben Fuchs dicusses the various affects of hormones on the human body.  Recommending that people should try and avoid synthetic hormones and stay with natural hormones.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a recent news article regarding a German research study on hay fever.  The study found a link between a reduction in hay fever and exercise among children.  Researchers suspect that the excercise helps to stimulate the immune system and thus the allergic reactions.

Dr. Wallach discusses a recent meeting between President Bush and the CEO's of America's leading auto manufacturors.  One of the main topics of discussion was the ever increasing cost of healthcare.  In fact the auto makers contend they spend more on healthcare for their employees than on the steel used to make the cars.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news story concerning the flu vaccine.  The FDA is now warning parents to watch their children immediately after getting the flu vaccine Tamiflu for symptoms of delirium, hallucinations and other unusual psychiatric behaviors.  There has been an alarming increase in these side effects among children in the past year.  So much so the FDA has ordered a warning label change.

Dr. Wallach discusses a recent news article concerning the happiness of women.  The article centered around a survey that many women ages 35-54 were not happy for a variety of reasons.  However, 70% weren't happy due to concerns related to healthcare or themselves or family members.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent study from Duke University.  The study invoolved data from 21,000 patients between 1986 and 2004 that found black heart disease patients died at a high rate than white patients.  The study also found that whites were 12% more likely to get a coronary bypass within 30 days of cardiac catheterization than blacks.

Dr. Wallach discusses the fact the "Baby Boomer" group is 80 million strong and moving into the later stages of their lives.  Doc asserts that as they age doctors will increasing want to perform a variety of surgical procedures such as hip and knee joint replacement.  He contends that these are not necessary if people have good diets and a good nutritional supplement plan.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news articles regarding germs.  The first concerns an article concerning a microbiologist that took swab samples from two different cars.  Finding literally thousands of germs on the seats, dashboards and floorboards.  The second article regards a recent push by the WHO (World Health Organization) to get hospital staff to use an alcohol solution to clean their hands instead of soap and water.  The hope is to reduce the 1.4 million infections contracted daily in hospitals throughout the world.

Dr. Wallach discusses a news article concerning a recent study on low carb diets.  The study is part of the Harvard Nurses Health study and found no correlation between a low carbohydrate diet and an increased risk of heart disease.  Doc also asserts that the amount of fat in the diet is not an issue.  But the quality of the fat and whether or not it has been heated beyond 400 degrees.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent news stories.  The first concerns the recall of 11 million bottles of acetaminophen by the Perrigo Co.  This company supplies the drug to retailers such as Walmart, CVS, Safeway and SuperValu Inc. for their name brand labels.  Second Doug and Doc discuss report put out by Dr. Jess Shatkin director of education and training at New York University's Child Study Center.  The report states that one out of every 40 babies in America are depressed.  Doc contends this is an effort to increase drug sales and the problem most likely stems from too much sugar in the baby and mother's diets.

Doug and Ben discuss a news article concerning a done at the Scripps Research Institute. The study was looking into ways to shut down the "hunger hormone" ghrelin. Researchers beiieve that regulation of this hormone could lead to an obesity vaccine.
