Monologue

Dr. Wallach discusses a news article concerning a recently court ruling.  A federal judge has ruled that the Vermont 16 year old that was refusing a second round of chemo-therapy can use alternative therapies instead.  A lower court had found the parents negligent and ruled to force the teen to take the chemo-therapy.  Dr. Wallach asserts that this is an important ruling in fight for freedom of choice.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent news articles the first concerning a recent court ruling involving drug giant Merck & Co.  Merck recently lost a federal case over the drug Vioxx and the jury awarded the plaintiff $50 million in damages.  The second article concerns a recent report from the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) that found 59% of all skin infections in U.S. emergency rooms are caused by MRSA (methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureaus).  A bacteria known as a "super bug" because of it's resistance to antibiotics.
