Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing a new federal law requiring makers of nutritional supplements had to report adverse events involving the supplements.  The sponsors of the law cited adverse events involving the herb ephedra to push the law.  So far since the new law was instituted there have been 604 adverse events reported involving these supplements.  In the same 6 month period there were  482,152 reports of adverse events associated with pharmaceutical drugs.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a study from Tufts University.  The study looked at food cravings associated with weight loss.  Find that 91% of women in the study reported experiencing food cravings.  The study found that those who occasionally gave in to the cravings were more likely to have success managing their weight.
