Monologue

Nurse Joanne Conaway fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Joanne starts the show discussing a recent research study concerning children's television viewing habits.  The study specifically looked at the impact of TV commercials and the effects on children's eating habits.  The results indicate that commercials have a very direct impact on the eating habits of children.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Joanne Conaway discuss a news release regarding the FDA's approval of a new birth control pill.  The new drug Lybrel manufactured by Wyeth uses two hormones (ethinyl estradiol & levonorgestrel) to actually halt women's menstrual periods indefinately.  The drug is expected to be ready for sale by July of this year despite the fact that no long term usage side effects have been determined.
