Tomorrow (13 July 2010) at approximately 13:30 hours, the Monterey County Board of Supervisors will consider passing a resolution against Arizona's SB1070, the law passed to help law enforcement fight Arizona's epidemic of illegal aliens. Why in the HELL are the supervisors concerned with how Arizona handles its problem of illegal aliens, especially when Monterey County has it's own problems with illegal aliens and a gang problem they should be more concerned with. Idiots!! If the resolution is passed, Governor Jan Brewer should send the supervisors crime scene photos of the rancher who was killed by illegal aliens. I on the other hand would just tell them to kiss my ass. Text of the proposed resolution: Before the Board of Supervisors in and for the County of Monterey, State of California Resolution No. Resolution urging the State of Arizona to repeal SB 1070, the "Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act," and directs the Clerk of the Board to send a copy of this resolution to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. WHEREAS, the County of Monterey has historically supported policies that prohibit discrimination based on race, ethnicity, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, and disability; and WHEREAS, the United States Government is responsible for immigration laws and enforcement; and WHEREAS, on April 23, 2010, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed Senate Bill 1070 (Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act), requiring all local law enforcement to investigate a person's immigration status when there is a reasonable suspicion that the person is in the Country unlawfully, regardless of whether that person is suspected of a crime; and WHEREAS, SB 1070 permits the arrest of a person, without a warrant, if there is probable cause to believe that the person has committed a public offense; and WHEREAS, SB 1070 does not prohibit law enforcement officers from relying on race, ethnicity, national origin or language to determine whom to investigate; and WHEREAS, SB 1070 encourages racial profiling and violates Fourteenth Amendment guarantees of due process and equal protection for U.S. citizens, legal residents and visitors who are detained for suspicion of being in the Country unlawfully; and WHEREAS, on April 29, 2010 Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed HB 2162 which, among other things, amended SB 1070 by prohibiting law enforcement from checking immigration status unless subsequent to a lawful stop and precluded the consideration of race, color or national origin when implementing SB 1070, except as permitted by the U.S. or Arizona Constitution; and WHEREAS, federal, state or local funds should not be used to support immigration programs that promote racial profiling and discrimination based on race, ethnicity or national origin or any other form of discrimination; and WHEREAS, SB 1070 and HB 2162 seriously undermine the U.S. Constitution and are preempted by Federal Law, which grant Congress exclusive power over immigration legislation; and WHEREAS, SB 1070 and HB 2162 conflict and therefore create confusing guidance to law enforcement that will result in unequal treatment and an unconstitutional application of these laws. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors for and on behalf of the people of the County of Monterey, urges the State of Arizona to repeal SB 1070, the "Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act," and directs the Clerk of the Board to send a copy of this resolution to Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that by adoption of this Resolution, the County of Monterey hereby includes in its Federal Legislative Program opposition to any budgetary action or legislation, including immigration policy, that promotes racial profiling or discrimination based, on race, ethnicity or national origin.
