Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the health and longevity of Americans. The U.S. ranks 46th among industrialized nations in health and longevity despite that fact that we as Americans spend more on health care than the other 45 ahead of us combined.
Pearls of Wisdom
Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent research studies concerning heart disease. A recent report from the American Heart Association indicates that heart disease is still the number one killer of Americans. This despite all of the cholesterol lowering drugs and heart medications not to mention procedures performed each year. The report also found that cardiovascular disease accounts for one third of all deaths in the U.S. Another study done at the University of Turin in Italy found that those taking aspirin daily in an effort to reduce heart attack risk who abruptly stopped increased their risk of an adverse event by 300%.
