Monologue

Dr. Wallach starts todays show discussing a plan by the American Veteranarian Association.  The plan is to bring their knowledge of common diseases in the animal world that also occur in humans.  Hoping to work with the CDC to prevent many common health challenges with nutrition and supplementation as is done in veteranary medicine.  Doc asserts that he hopes it works but will be surprised as he tried the same thing back in the 1960's and the mainsteam medical industry wasn't interested.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of news stories cocerning doctors in trouble.  The first concerns a doctor in the UK who led a study in the late 1990's that linked MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccines to autism.  The effect of his research was a 10% drop in vaccinations of children.  Now the General Medical Coucil is bringing charges of professional misconduct against him.   The second article concerns a Virginia doctor who has been charged with 16 counts of drug trafficking.  One patient was getting 1600 pills a day.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing arthritis and the NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) drugs usually prescribed.  Asserting that these only treat a symptom and don't actually address the cause.  Recommending nutritional alternatives as ways to deal with arthritis.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss the most recent TV ad from Pfizer for thier NSAID drug "Celebrex".  Doug plays the audio voice-over portion of this ad and points out that most of the ad is about the side effects.

Dr. Wallach discusses his most recent book "Wallstreet for Kids" that teaches children about entrepeneurship and business.  Also mentioning the Youngevity product the "Jumbo Brain" pack for better memory and cognitive abilities.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent study concerning the longevity of people living in Hawaii compared to those on the mainland.  The study funded by the pharmaceutical industry found that the average life expectancy in Hawaii is 81.3 years while those on the mainland live an average of 77.9 years.  The drug experts claim this is due to better access to new medications.  But other age researchers disagree point to life style choices as the reason for the longevity.

Nurse Joanne Conaway fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Joanne discusses a book by New York Times Medical reporter Dan Hurley called "Natural Causes".  In his book Hurley claims their is no need for nutritional supplementation.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Joanne Conaway discuss a recent study done at the University of Pennsylvania.  The study found that the common practice of giving children daily antimicrobials for chronic urinary infections did not prevent future infections.  In fact the practice actually increased the risk of contracting resistant infections.
