Monologue

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben starts the show discussing the recent outbreaks of e. coli.  Theorizing that one possible reason why this is occuring is the over-use of antibiotics.  This over prescribing is possibly killing off most if not all of the body's "good bacteria".  Thus leaving people vulnerable to infections from foods and other environmental sources.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article regarding several recent studies on cancers.  The eight different studies from Italy and Switzerland indicate that diets rich in garlic and onions may help lower the odds of getting several types of cancer.

Dr. Wallach discusses a recent report by the International Diabetes Federation that asserts type II diabetes is dramatically on the rise world wide.  Doc recommends his "Deadly Recipe" book for people to learn more about the cause and prevention of this deadly disease.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach further discuss some of the findings addressed at a news conference at the World Diabetes Congress.  Type II diabetes is also on the rise in children in fact in Japan type II diabetes is more common in children than type I and in the U.S. up to 45% of new cases in children are type II.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news story regarding fast food establishments in childrens hospitals.  Out of the 250 childrens hospitals 59 have fast food outlets in the hospital over 30 of those are McDonalds.  Many healthcare professionals believe this sends a mixed message to both parents and children.
