MOSS LANDING FATAL ACCIDENT- 07-11-14 10:00 SG

A FATAL ACCIDENT NEAR MOSS LANDING SHUT DOWN HIGHWAY 1 THIS MORNING (FRI).     OFFICIALS SAY TWO WOMEN WERE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND WHEN THE DRIVER SWERVED OFF THE ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A TRUCK.     BOTH WOMEN WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD.    THE CRASH CAUSED THE TRUCK TO DRIVE INTO A POWER POLE CAUSING AN OUTAGE.    OFFICERS HAVE CLOSED OFF BOTH LANES BETWEEN JENSEN AND STRUVE ROAD AS CREWS WORK TO CLEAR THE ROADWAY AND RESTORE POWER.

THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH HAS ISSUED A WARNING OF PHONE SCAMS TARGETING MEDICAL INFORMATION.       OFFICIALS SAY THE FRAUDULENT CALLERS CONTACT PEOPLE TO ASK ABOUT A SURGERY OR OTHER PROCEDURE TO OBTAIN A PATIENT’S PERSONAL INFORMATION. THE C-D-P-H REMINDS THE PUBLIC THEY DO NOT MAKE PHONE CALLS OF THAT NATURE.

FELTON MAN ARRESTED IN SCOTTS VALLEY- 07-11-14 6:30 SG

A FELTON MAN WAS ARRESTED IN SCOTTS VALLEY EARLY THIS MORNING (FRI) ON DRUG AND GUN CHARGES.     AROUND 12:30 OFFICERS PULLED OVER A CAR WITH BROKEN TAIL LIGHTS ON SCOTTS VALLEY DRIVE AND CONDUCTED A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE AFTER SMELLING MARIJUANA.     THE MALE PASSENGER, 37-YEAR-OLD EDWARD PAPINEAU, WAS FOUND IN POSSESSION OF METHAMPHETAMINE, COCAINE, AND MARIJUANA.     OFFICERS ALSO RECOVERED A LOADED HANDGUN.      PAPINEAU WAS BOOKED AND THE FEMALE DRIVER WAS RELEASED AT THE SCENE.

RESCD WHALE RTRNS 2 BAY-7/10/14-2131-PMD

 

RESEARCHERS HAVE SIGHTED A WHALE RESCUED EARLIER IN THE YEAR IN THE MONTEREY BAY.  A HUMPBACK WHALE THAT WAS FOUND ENTANGLED IN CRAB POT LINES IN APRIL, AND THEN ENDURED MORE THAN 2 WEEKS OF RESCUE EFFORTS BEFORE BEING FREED, WAS SPOTTED ON SATURDAY. A GROUP FROM MARINE LIFE STUDIES RECOGNIZED THE WHALES TAIL INJURIES CAUSED BY THE FISHING LINES. THE WHALE IS NOW IN THE SAME AREA IT WAS ORIGINALLY FOUND IN DISTRESS.
