CHASE AND CRASH IN WVILLE - 07/23/14 09:56 S.S.

A MAN (WANTED FOR KIDNAPPING AND ASSAULT) WAS ARRESTED YESTERDAY IN WATSONVILLE, AFTER LEADING LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON A CHASE. RUDY CORPUS CRASHED THE VEHICLE INTO A CURB AND RAN FROM THAT SCENE, BUT WAS ARRESTED A SHORT TIME LATER. EARLIER THIS MONTH, CORPUS ALLEGEDLY HELD THE MOTHER OF HIS 2 CHILDREN CAPTIVE FOR 5 DAYS…..WHILE BEATING AND EMOTIONALLY ABUSING HER. CORPUS WAS ARRESTED AND BOOKED INTO SANTA CRUZ COUNTY JAIL.

4 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED AFTER THEY LED LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS ON A HIGH SPEED CHASE IN HOLLISTER EARLY TUESDAY. THE CHASE BEGAN SHORTLY BEFORE 1:30 A-M ON SAN FELIPE ROAD, AND ENDED ON BONNIE VIEW ROAD. THE 4 FACE CHARGES OF EVADING A POLICE OFFICER WITH WILLFUL DISREGARD, CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT A CRIME, DESTRUCTION OF EVIDENCE, AND POSSESSION OF BURGLARY TOOLS. THE 4 WERE BOOKED INTO MONTEREY COUNTY JAIL.

SANTA CRUZ CITY OFFICIALS ARE WARNING VISITORS OF VACATION RENTAL SCAMS THIS SUMMER.    THE ADVISORY FOLLOWS A RECENT REPORT OF A COUPLE WHO FOLLOWED UP ON AN ADVERTISED HOME FOR RENT ON CRAIGSLIST.    AN INDIVIDUAL POSING AS THE PROPERTY’S AGENT ASKED THEM TO WIRE $650 TO A BANK ACCOUNT.    THE COUPLE FOUND THE HOME WAS NOT FOR RENT AND OCCUPIED BY A LONG-TERM TENANT.     CITY OFFICIALS ADVISE VISITORS TO RENT FROM REPUTABLE AGENCIES WHO PROVIDE SECURE PAYMENTS.

FAIR AVENUE FLOOD- 07-22-14 18:00 SG

A ROADWAY IN THE CITY OF SANTA CRUZ FLOODED YESTERDAY (MON) EVENING.      WATER FROM UNDERGROUND SPILLED OVER THE 1000 BLOCK OF FAIR AVENUE AROUND 5:30.    THE AVENUE WAS CLOSED FOR OVER TWO HOURS AS CREWS WORKED TO CLEAR THE ROADWAY.    IT IS STILL NOT CLEAR WHAT CAUSED THE FLOOD.

FINES FOR BOATS TOO CLOSE TO WHALES- 07-22-14 18:00 SG

WILDLIFE OFFICIALS ARE REMINDING BOATERS IN MOSS LANDING TO KEEP THEIR DISTANCE FROM WHALES.    THOSE WHO FAIL TO STAY AT LEAST 100-YARDS FROM THE MAMMALS ARE SUBJECT TO FINES OF OVER $10,000.     A WHALE WATCHING OPERATION ON MONTEREY BAY WAS FINED OVER $12,000 FOR FEEDING ORCAS EARLIER THIS YEAR.     ANYONE WHO BELIEVES THEY’VE WITNESSED A VIOLATION IS ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT THE NOAA.
