Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing absorbtion of nutrients. Asserting that many Americans are not absorbing their nutrients even if they are taking them. Contending those who aren't supplementing are deficient because there are no nutrients in the foods today. As it only takes three minerals to grow crops and the soils are depleted. Also due to damage to the intestines because of gluten intolerance those getting nutrients aren't absorbing them.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article regarding a study from the U.S. National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Researchers found that children are getting way too much added sugar in their diets. Finding that 99% of children ages 19 to 23 months are getting over 7 teaspoons of sugar daily. More sugar than is in a Snickers candy bar.

Stating that if they were given a hair analysis it would be known which nutrients the person was missing.

The researchers contend that a tool that doctors use to access a patients risk of stroke or heart attack may off by as much as 20%.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Jole Wallach. Beginng the show discussing a news article that outlined studies that have linked type 2 diabetes and an increased risk of cancer of all types. Contending that cancer is basically cells that are starved for oxygen.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a news article regarding a breakthrough in high-intesity focused ultrasound therapy. A research team from China developed a semi-enclosed spherical cavity transducer that can produce a focused standing wave field. That can kill cancer cells without damaging surrounding tissues. Researchers examined 625 men with prostate cancer who underwent this treatment and 93% were still cancer free five years later. Additionally there were less side effects compared to surgery.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article about comments made by retired Lt. Col Oliver North. He stated to Fox news that nearly all of the school shooter have been on Ritalin. Also blaiming the shooting on a culture of violence especially in TV and movies. A psychologist George DuPaul from Lehigh University has studied the effects of Ritalin contends there is no evidence that links drugs like Ritalin to violence.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing a report that states U.S. children rank 26th in live births and survivability. Also citing a study from India that found over 95% of babies that died from SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) were being fed formulas and not breast milk. Stating that SIDS can be traced to nutritional deficiencies.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a study from the Harvard Medical school. The study found that old adults admitted to the hospital were more likely to survive if they were treated by a female doctor. Researchers looked a 1.5 million admissions of Medicare patients finding that 11% of patients treated by women died with 30 days of admission. While 11.5% of patients treated by men died within 30 days of admission. Estimating there could be 32,000 fewer deaths if men treated patients in the same manner as women. Other research indicates women doctors more likely to follow treatment guidelines, provide preventive care and communicate more with patients.
