Nurse JoAnn Conaway fills in for Dr. Wallach.  JoAnn starts the show discussing a recent study regarding dietary fats and fertility.  The study found that women on consuming a lot of low fat products had problems with ovulation.  While those consuming a higher fat diet had a lower risk of poor ovulation.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and JoAnn Conaway discuss a news story concerning the safety of over-the-counter cold and cough medicines for young children.  A recent CDC report outlined over 1500 children under the age of 2 that experienced serious health problems after taking common cold medicines.  In fact three children actually died prompting the FDA to consider reviewing dosages for children under the age of  six.

Dr. Wallach starts the show talking about the 15 million Americans that are harmed in the medical system every year.  Doc also discussing all of the great antioxidants found in Youngevity's line of juice products.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent news articles.  The first is breaking news that the head of the Army's North Atlantic Regional Medical Command including Walter Reed Army Medical Center has been relieved of his command.  After disclosures about inadequate treatment of wounded soldiers.  Next Doc and Doug discuss a research study done at the Medical College of Wisconsin that found the use of the popular antibiotic "vancomycin" can cause severe bleeding and death in some patients.

Dr. Wallach starts todays show discussing a recent research study on antioxidant vitamins.  The meta-analytical study looked at the data from several other studies and found no link between anitoxidant vitamin supplements and longevity.  Doc disagrees and points out several deficiencies in the study.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a report put out by the Associated Press.  For the report  the AP looked at the FDA's own records of food inspectors and inspections.  After the 911 terrorist attack Congress mandated the FDA to step up inspections of food sources.  In the 2003 there was an upward spike of both inspections and the number of inspectors in the field.  Between 2003 and 2006 the number of food inspections dropped 47%.  While inspections of U.S.-produced foods dropped 75% in the same time frame.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss two recent news stories.  The first concerns pro quarterback Brett Farve and his recent surgery to remove a bone spur for the seconc time on the same ankle.  The second story was a guideline for those with osteoarthritis that outlined the causes and possible preventions.

Dr. Wallach discusses professional athletes to start the show.  Asserting that pro athletes despite being in shape don't live as long as "couch potatoes".  Contending this is because of all the nutrients they lose through their sweat while working out and playing their sport.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss the recent deaths of two prominent athletes.  Former NBA and Celtic star Dennis Johnson died last week after going into cardiac arrest.  Over the weekend Denver Broncos running back Damien Nash collapsed and died following a charity basketball game.  Doug also discusses a Colorado high school that has banned the energy drink "Spike Shooter".  After several students became sick with shortness of breath, heart palpitations and nausea.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben starts the show discussing the fact that drugs only treat symptoms and often the side effects are sometimes worse than the original health challenge.  He also talks about so called "Bio-Identical" hormone treatments for women.  He asserts that in reality there isn't such a thing as "bio-identical" hormones.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a recent study that found omega-3 fatty acids slowed the break down process in bones.  This finding has caused researchers to theorize that fish oil in the diet may strengthen bones.
