Dr. Wallach discusses a recent news story concerning prescription heart burn drugs.  A new study has found a link between drugs such as Nexium, Prevacid and Prilosec and an increased risk of hip fractures.  Researchers speculate that with reduced stomach acid people don't absorb as much calcium so their bones are weaker.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a recent study on prostate cancer.  A study by the American Cancer Society and the Duke University Prostate Center found that men who lost 11 pounds or more reduced the risk of an aggressive form of prostate cancer by nearly 42%.

Dr. Wallach mentions New Years Eve is just around the corner and many people make weight loss their resolution.  Doc asserts that people can't lose weight and keep it off if they don't address the root cause of weight gain and obesity.  Contending that nutritional deficiencies are the root cause to the problem.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss the H5N1avian flu.  Three new cases have cropped up in Egypt with one woman dying.  A Harvard University study has also calculated that world wide as many as 81 million people could die if a strain transmits from human to human.

Doug and Ben discuss a news article concerning a done at the Scripps Research Institute. The study was looking into ways to shut down the "hunger hormone" ghrelin. Researchers beiieve that regulation of this hormone could lead to an obesity vaccine.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach. Ben discusses acid reflux and heartburn in relationship to low acid levels in the digestive system. Contending that most Americans have poor digestion especially the elderly. As we age our ability to digest fats and proteins decreases.

Ben and Doug discuss a recent research study published in the journal Thorax. Researchers have found a link between symptomatic asthma and lower levels of vitamin C in the blood stream. In the study those with higher consumption of foods high in vitamin C were half as likely to have asthma symptoms.
