The case of the man, accused of attacking a woman near the Santa Cruz Town Clock, has been suspended, pending a behavioral health evaluation. That’s because 41 year-old Daisuke Muro has been deemed mentally incompetent. The charges against Muro are on hold until his ability to stand trial is assessed. Muro’s Competency Hearing is scheduled to take place in a Santa Cruz County Court room June 25th.
Firefighters quickly put out a small conflagration that occurred on Capitola Road and Soquel Avenue last night. The blaze was reported around 7:15 p.m., and firefighters were able to contained it to about a 10 x 40 foot spot. The cause of the brushfire is still being investigated.
The cause of a wildfire, that burned about 3 acres of land in Scotts Valley yesterday, is still being investigated. No structures were damaged, and Cal-Fire firefighters had the blaze (near Mount Hermon Road and Conference Drive) knocked down by around 4 p.m.
A man suffered major injuries when he lost control of the vehicle he was driving in a Salinas neighborhood and it hit a wall. The just before 2 a.m. crash occurred yesterday in the area of Assisi and Damian Way. The cause of that accident is still under investigation.
1 person died, and 3 more suffered major injuries, in a head-on accident on Highway 101 in Salinas. 3 were traveling in a Mercedes that was hit by a Chevy Trailblazer being driven the wrong way on northbound Highway 101. The 21 year-old wrong-way driver was arrested for being under the influence. She was also injured in the crash, and transported to Natividad Medical Center.
A man was arrested over the weekend in connection with a June 7th robbery (and attempted murder) in Salinas. 21 year-old Victor Alejandro Valdez was arrested just south of King City. Lopez allegedly shot a man once in the lower body, after that man refused to hand over his money and credit cards. The incident took place on the 1300 block of Rhode Island Street.
More than 5000 Law Enforcement personnel will be running the Special Olympics, “Flame of Hope,” in Northern California through June 22. The event is part of the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, a year round fundraising campaign that will culminate at the Special Olympics Northern California summer games, June 22-24 at UC Davis. On Wednesday the torch begins its journey in Watsonville at 08:00 AM before heading through Aptos, Capitola, Santa Cruz, and ending the day in Scotts Valley.
Beginning Today (Mon) motorists can expect traffic delays on Highway 1 south of the Crossroads. Cal Trans will be performing roadway repairs from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. through Thursday. Motorists should be prepared for delays of up to 10 minutes.
