Flooding, Road Closures As Heavy Rains Fall On Saturated Ground

FLASH  FLOOD  WARNINGS  HAVE  BEEN  ISSUED  IN  VARIOUS  LOCAL  AREAS,  INCLUDING  THE  LOMA  AND  SOBERANES  FIRE  BURN  AREAS……AS  WELL  AS  CORRALITOS  CREEK,  AND  THE  INTERLAKEN  AREA  IN  WATSONVILLE;   AND  THE  SAN  BENITO  RIVER  (NEAR  THE  OLD  WILLOW  CREEK  SCHOOL,  AND  HIGHWAY  25)  IN  SAN  BENITO  COUNTY.

A  46  YEAR-OLD  BEN LOMOND  MAN’S  BODY  WAS  FOUND  IN  THE  SAN  LORENZO  RIVER  OVER  THE  WEEKEND.    ERIC  CAIN’S  BODY  WAS  FOUND  AROUND  11:340  A.M.  SATURDAY,   NEAR  THE  300  BLOCK  OF  BRACKNEY  ROAD.       ANYONE  WITH  INFORMATION  ON  CAIN’S    WHEREABOUTS  PRIOR  TO  11:30  SATURDAY  MORNING  IS  ENCOURAGED TO  CONTACT  THE  SANTA  CRUZ  COUNTY  SHERIFF’S  DEPARTMENT

A  35  YEAR-OLD  MAN  WAS  SHOT  AND  KILLED  IN  SALINAS  OVER  THE  WEEKEND.   THE  SHOOTING  REPORTEDLY  TOOK  PLACE  JUST  AFTER  10:30 PM  SATURDAY,   ON  THE  300  BLOCK  OF  CROSS  AVENUE.  ANYONE  WITH  ANY  INFORMATION  ABOUT  THIS  FATAL  SHOOTING  IS  ENCOURAGED  TO  CONTACT  THE  SALINAS  POLICE  DEPARTMENT

TEXT  MESSAGES  WERE  SENT  OUT  AND  ROAD  HAZARD  SIGNS  WERE  PUT  IN  PLACE  WHEN  CAPITOLA  CITY OFFICIALS  CLOSED  A  PORTION  OF  PARK  AVENUE (SOUTH  OF  HIGHWAY  1)  ON  SATURDAY.       PARK  AVENUE,  BETWEEN  KENNEDY  DRIVE  AND  CORONADO  STREET   IS  EXPECTED  TO  REMAIN  CLOSED  UNTIL  TOMORROW.       THAT’S  BECAUSE  OF  THE  THREAT  OF  MORE  TREES,  AND  LARGE  BRANCHES  FALLING  DURING THE  CURRENT  STORM-SET.   

WHARF  ROAD,  BETWEEN  CAPITOLA  ROAD  AND  49TH   AVENUE  IN  CAPITOLA  IS  ALSO  CLOSED  (DUE  TO  ROAD  DAMAGE). 

09:10) Monterey & Santa Cruz Counties - The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties this morning.   In Monterey County, the warning issued runs though 1:00 p.m. today.   Anyone living or traveling on roads in the Soberanes Fire Burn area or along Highway 1, Palo Colorado Road and Old Coast Road, are warned to be alert.   In Santa Cruz County, a flash flood warning was issued till 1:30 p.m. today.  The San Lorenzo River in Felton began to rise rapidly with heavy rain fall prompting the warning.   Flash flood warnings may be issued in San Benito County as water levels of creeks and rivers continue to rise.   We will keep the public updated as more information becomes available. 

 

(08:40) Soquel - A man and a woman were arrested after police found drugs in their vehicle.  The incident happened on the 2000 block of Willowbrook Lane in Soquel.   During a search of the vehicle police found meth, heroin, methodone pills and a scale.  Philip Kalab and Kelsey Knoll both had warrants and were booked into Santa Cruz County jail.  

 

(07:55) Central Coast - The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the San Francisco Bay Area that will be in effect until 5 a.m. tomorrow. According to the National Weather Service, southerly winds of 20 to 35 mph are expected along the coast and in the hills.  Gusts will be between 45 and 50 mph. Gusty winds may make driving difficult. Saturated soils will also contribute to an increased risk of downed trees and power lines during strong winds.

 

 

(06:45) Aptos - Aptos Beach Drive is closed due to flooding.  The area affected is between Treasure Island and Venetian.  Deputies are currently on scene monitoring water levels and coordinating with Public Works for road closures.  Motorists and pedestrians are being advised to avoid the area.
