Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben starts the show disussing the importance of hormones for good health.  Asserting that correct hormone levels are important for good thyroid function.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a couple of recent news articles.  The first concerns a survey released by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemology.  The survey found that at any one time 30,000 patients in hospitals and nursing facilities have the "superbug" Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.  Researchers concluding that 46 out of every 1000 patients has the bug.  Due rates of infection of identified patients the researchers also concluded that 75% of patients that had the bug actually walked in already infected.  Next Doug and Ben discuss a study that found a direct correlation between waist size in older men and urinary tract dysfunction.

Pharmacist Ben Fuchs fills in for Dr. Wallach.  Ben starts the show discussing a couple of key trace minerals and how the help promote good health.  Asserting that 70mg of Chromium daily can actually reduce cravings for carbohydrates.  Also discussing the importance of enough zinc in the diet for a variety of heatlh issues.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a blog written by a medical doctor concerning hand sanitizers.  Apparently the is a growing problem of children swallowing these products and becoming extremely ill.  The products are usually about 62% alcohol by weight a single 2 ounce container has as much alcohol as 4 shots of vodka.  In 2005 the American Association of Poison Control Centers reported nearly 12,000 cases and 6600 have been reported so far this year.

Doug Winfrey and Ben Fuchs discuss a recent Australian study that found moderate drinking of beer, wine or gin during a meal helped to reduce overall blood sugar levels following the meal.  In lean healthy individual postprandial glycemia (post meal blood sugar) by up to 37%.

Dr. Wallach starts todays show discussing medical mistakes.  Quoting statistics from a report released earlier this year Doc outlines the numbers of casualties suffered by patients in hospitals, clinics and dotors offices.  Some 15.8 million people are injured, killed and infected in the medical industry each year yet nothing is done.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of these "medical mistakes" where surgical insturments were left inside patient's bodies.  Doug and Doc also discuss the long waits suffered by millions in hospital emergency rooms.

Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing the problem of ADD/ADHD.  Contending the disorder is caused by a poor diet with too much sugar and nutritional deficiencies.  Also asserting that treating it with drugs is not the proper method of treatment.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent news story concerning the growing diabetes epidemic in the U.S.  A study recently found that 12% of the $645 billion spent on healthcare in 2005 was to treat diabetes.  In 2005 $9.88 billion was spent on diabetes drugs that figure is projected to increase by 60-68% by the year 2009.

Dr. Wallach mentions the fact that many health experts are saying that most Americans will not live as long as their parents or grandparents.  These "experts" contend that this is for a variety of reasons, however Doc disagrees.  Contending that nearly all of the health challenges that are common today are a direct result of nutritional deficiencies.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news article concerning a New York city doctor infected withhepatitis C.  The doctor an anesthesiologist is linked to at least three recent cases of disease.  New York City Health Department officials are now trying to contact some 4500 additional patients that have come in contact with the doctor in the past 4 plus years.
