Authorities arrested two two people following a traffic stop on Friday. A Santa Cruz County Anti Crime Task Force unit performed a vehicle stop at Ocean and Barson Streets shortly before 8 p.m. Officers determined that minors in the car were in possession of alcohol. A search of the minors uncovered a loaded 45 caliber pistol concealed in the waistband on a 17 year old male juvenile. The driver, 18 year old Camila Callaci, and the juvenile were taken into custody on multiple charges with gang enhancements.
A Salinas woman has been sentenced to jail time for domestic violence. 23 year old was found guilty of domestic violence for battering the father of her infant son in a Baby’s R Us parking lot last September. Andalon was sentenced to 40 days in Monterey County Jail and 3 years probation.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested to people in Capitola on Wednesday. Authorities say that ICE agents alerted police they would be executing administrative warrants. A Capitola police spokesperson said the department does not assist in civil administrative warrants, however the department does participate with all agencies on criminal matters.
Members of the Fort Ord Re-Use Authority are scheduled to vote-in new goals and objectives tomorrow. One of the goals will likely be the building of a new road through the Former Fort Ord. Some environmental groups are concerned that a new road would cause the degradation of certain sensitive habitats, without reducing the traffic congestion.
A man was arrested today, for punching someone in Monterey yesterday. 29 year-old Benjamin Van Cleave is said to have punched the person in the head, knocking his victim to the ground. The injured person was transported to Community Hospital Of The Monterey Peninsula with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries. Van Cleave was booked into Monterey County Jail.
A King City man has been arrested in connection with last months stabbing of his girlfriend. 23 year-old Giovanni Velasquez was arrested today on the 300 block of South Vanderhurst. He was booked into Monterey County Jail with a “No Bail Parole Hold”.
The man who suffered several gunshot wounds in a Soquel parking lot yesterday is expected to survive. An infant (that was in his car during the shooting) was not hit by any rounds. 18 year-old San Jose resident Joshua Strauss, who is thought to have been the shooter, is being held without bail in Santa Cruz County Jail.
Several threats have reportedly been made towards pacific grove high school. Threatening letters have been found in the girls locker room and bathrooms. One of the notes read: " bang bang like Florida on “Walkout Day."
