Dr. Joel Wallach

A biomedical research pioneer, Dr. Joel D. Wallach spent more than 40 years in the field of Veterinary Medicine, observing and researching the effects of individual nutrients on animal health, before becoming a Naturopathic Physician in 1982. Today, Dr. Wallach is renowned for his groundbreaking research on the health benefits of selenium and other minerals. He currently dedicates his time to lecturing throughout the world on the therapeutic benefits of vitamins and minerals, and on lobbying the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on behalf of the dietary supplement industry.

Dr. Wallach has been appearing recently with George Noory on Coast to Coast AM.

Dr. Joel Wallach begins the show discussing the cost of healthcare. Contending that if people followed his advice the cost of healthcare could be lowered by 85%-95%. Stating that if people ate the right diet and took all 90 essential nutrients most chronic diseases could be prevented. Rather than waiting until people contract a chronic disease and treating it with drugs.

Researchers followed the habits of an indigenous tribe living in the Bolivian Amazon for over a year. Testing their arteries for signs of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). Finding that an 80 year old member of the Tsimane tribe had arteries damaged less than those of an American in their 50s. The belief is that this is due to their diet and lifestyle. Living as hunter gatherers and farmers eating vegetables high in fiber along with game and fish. As well as living an active lifestyle with very little sedentary down time.

Research in recent years has shown that a healthy diet is linked to a reduced risk of mental health conditions like depression and anxiety. In all other industrialized nations marketing directly to consumers is illegal. Contending that the U.S. spends more on healthcare than all other industrialized nations combined. Researchers found that more than half of women with early stage breast cancer received more radiation than they should have gotten. Getting the full six weeks of radiation when the shorter four week treatment regiment or opting out all together. Estimating $164 million could have been saved. Since the six week regiment costs around $13,000 and the four week treatment costs around $8000.

One study found the success rates of in vitro fertilization goes down when transfers are done within 21 days of the time change. A 2014 study found that increase by 25% the Monday following time change compared to rates on other Mondays. Traffic accidents increase in teens following the time change. Another study found increases in strokes within days of the time change.
