Watsonville police are investigating a shooting that took place Thursday Night. Shortly before 10 p.m., patrol units responded to reports of a shooting victim on the 400 block of Airport Boulevard. Police located a man with a gunshot wound to the head at a 7-11. The victim was able to tell officers he was assaulted by 3 men on Ross Avenue. The victim is reported in stable condition at a trauma center. Police are encouraging any witnesses to come forward.

 

(01:45) Santa Cruz - Cal Fire announced a burn ban is in place from now until next Tuesday.  The burn ban was put into place due to high weekend winds and dry conditions.  All burn permits for outdoor burning have been suspended in Santa Cruz.  Cal Fire will be positioning extra fire equipment and personnel in the San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit.

(09:25) Monterey County - The Monterey City Council encourages Monterey residents to apply to serve on various Boards and Commissions.  Current vacancies include: Appeals Hearing Board, Building and Housing Appeals Board, Disabled Access Appeals Board, Historic Preservation Commission, Museum and Cultural Arts Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and Library Board of Trustees.  Information on the responsibilities and duties of each Boards or Commission is available at Monterey.org.  

 

 

(08:20) Castroville - Deputies shut down a Marijuana Butane Honey Oil Lab yesterday in Castroville.  Deputies searched 23 year old Samuel Ceja’s home in the 11000 block of Poole Street and found methamphetamine for sales and a fully functional Butane Honey Oil Lab, a loaded firearm and ammunition.  Ceja was booked into Monterey County Jail.

 

(07:55) Watsonville - The Watsonville Police Department announced that they will be conducting a dui/driver license checkpoint over the weekend.  The checkpoint will be held tomorrow within city limits between the hours of 6:00 p-m to 1:00 a.m.  Drivers caught driving impaired can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to include jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspensions and other expenses that can exceed $10,000.

Cal Fire has confirmed that a fire fighter died battling the Thomas Fire yesterday.  32 year old Cory Iverson is survived by his pregnant wife and two year old daughter. Iverson has been a firefighter since 2009. The Thomas fire is the 4th largest in history to date.

 

The Salinas Police Department is announcing an holiday DUI enforcement period. Starting today and continuing through January 1st police, sheriff and the CHP will be deploying DUI Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols. The Salinas PD also will be checking for impairment by recreational marijuana and prescription drugs.  Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or "DDVIP," free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver.
