A SHOOTING AT A SALINAS CEMETERY IS BELIEVED TO BE GANG RELATED. POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING REPORTS OF A DRIVE BY SHOOTING AT GARDENS MEMORIAL CEMETERY YESTERDAY (THURS). THE FUNERAL OF AN ALLEDGED GANG MEMBER WAS UNDERWAY WHEN SHOTS WERE FIRED FROM A LINCOLN NAVIGATOR AT THE INTERSECTION OF EAST BLANCO AND ABBOTT STREET, TOWARD THE BURIAL PARTY. ANYONE WITH ANY INFORMATION IS ENCOURAGED TO CONTACT THE SALINAS POLICE DEPARTMENT..

WATER TEMPERATURES IN THE MONTEREY BAY HAVE REACHED THE WARMEST TEMPERATURE ON RECORD. YESTERDAY ( WEDS) THE NATIONAL OCEANIC ATMOSPHERIC ADMINISTRATION’S MONTEREY BAY BUOY RECORDED THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE IT HAS MEASURED SINCE MEASURMENTS BEGAN IN 1987.   MARINE EXPERTS DON’T BELIEVE THE HIGH TEMPERATURE REPRESENTS A TREND AT THIS TIME.

SC SEA LION RESCUED - 07-24-14 09:45 P.S.

A SEA LION, ENTANGLED IN A NET, WAS RESCUED YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY). IT WAS SPOTTED NEAR THE SANTA CRUZ WHARF AND HAS EVADED RESCUE ATTEMPTS SINCE 2013. A TEAM FROM THE MARINE MAMMAL CENTER WAS ABLE TO CAPTURE THE FEMALE SEA LION, AND TOOK IT TO THE SAUSALITO CENTER WHERE THE NET WAS REMOVED. THE VETERINIARIAN SAID THE SEA LION IS RECOVERING NICELY.

RESIDENT COUNCILS APPROVED - 07/24/14 11:45 S.S.

GOVERNOR JERRY BROWN HAS SIGNED A BILL INTO LAW THAT SHOULD GIVE GREATER REPRESENTATION TO RESIDENTS OF RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITIES. AB-15-72 REQUIRES A RESIDENTIAL CARE FACILITY TO HELP RESIDENTS PUT TOGETHER A RESIDENT COUNCIL (IF 2 OR MORE RESIDENTS REQUEST IT). THE NEW LAW REPLACES ONE IN WHICH A MAJORITY OF RESIDENTS HAD TO REQUEST A COUNCIL, BEFORE ONE WOULD HAVE TO BE CREATED. THE NEW BILL ALSO REQUIRES FACILITIES TO RESPOND TO RESIDENT COUNCIL CONCERNS IN WRITING, AND TO INFORM RESIDENTS ABOUT THE COUNCIL AND ITS ACTIVITIES.

MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS ON 1 WED. - 07/24/14 08:53 S.S.

A NUMBER OF ACCIDENTS KEPT TRAFFIC BACKED UP ON HIGHWAY 1 FOR SEVERAL HOURS YESTERDAY. THE MAJORITY OCCURRED BETWEEN 11 A-M AND 3 P-M, AND TOOK PLACE BETWEEN THE STATE PARK DRIVE AND FREEDOM BOULEVARD EXITS IN APTOS. 1 INJURY WAS REPORTED IN CONNECTION WITH THE 2- VEHICLE CRASH THAT TOOK PLACE AROUND 1 P-M. THE CAUSES OF YESTERDAY AFTERNOON’S ACCIDENTS ARE STILL BEING INVESTIGATED.

THE CAUSE OF YESTERDAY’S 1-ACRE VEGETATION FIRE NEAR LA SELVA BEACH HAS NOT YET BEEN DETERMINED. THE BLAZE BROKE OUT SHORTLY BEFORE 4 P-M, BEHIND THE K-O-A CAMPGROUND OFF SAN ANDREAS ROAD. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND NO STRUCTURES WERE DAMAGED.
