A  man  is  being  sought  in  connection  with  an  alleged  attack  on  a  woman  last  night  in  Salinas.     The  21  year-old  woman  reported  that  it  happened  just  after  7 p-m,   on  the  600  block  of  Hartnell  Street.     She  described  her  attacker  as  a  5  foot  7  inch  tall19  year-old,     Hispanic  man  who  weighs  about  175  pounds.    

A  man  died  after  he  crashed  the  vehicle  he  was  driving  in  Gilroy early  this  morning.   The  12:46 a.m. accident  caused  delays  on  southbound  Highway  101  near  Highway  25.    The  cause  of  the  fatal  incident  is  being  investigated.

A  local  rally,   to  support  the  protestors  at Standing  Rock  in  North  Dakota,   is  planned  for  Thursday  in  downtown  Santa  Cruz.   Protestors  say  they  want  to  bring  attention  to  some  of  the  banks  (and  other  corporations)  that  are  supporting  the  Dakota  Access  Pipeline.      The  local  rally  is  scheduled  to  be  held  at  the  Bank  Of  America   at   104  River  Street   from   9 a-m   until  5  p-m  December  1st.          Several  locals  have  suffered  injuries  there,   including  watsonville  native  Noah-Michael  Treanor,  who  graduated  from  Pajaro  Valley  High  in  2013;   and  2014  Santa  Cruz  High  Graduate  (and former U-C-S-C  student)  Gabriela  Benish-Kalna. 

3  people,  who  were  connected  with  a  boat  that  landed  at  Ano  Nuevo  State  Beach  Sunday,   were  detained  in  connection  with  a  suspected  drug  smuggling  scheme.   The  Coast  Guard  had  been  tracking  the  boat  before  it  landed……and  San  Mateo  County  Sheriff’s  Deputies  And  ICE  Officers  met  and  detained  the  people  at  the  landing  site.     The  investigation  of  this  case  is  ongoing.

(10:50) Watsonville - Watsonville will once again have a book store.   Kelly Pleskunas, who was the owner of the former Crossroads Books in Watsonville, was forced to close her doors last April when the LANDLORD declined to renew her lease.   The new book store, Kelly’s Books, will open on December 3rd and will offer gift items, cards, and books for all ages.  The grand opening will begin at 10 a-m and include a ribbon cutting ceremony as well as a raffle.  The new book store is located at the Watsonville Square shopping center at Main Street and Green Valley Road.   

 

(10:00) Santa Cruz - A fundraiser was held over the weekend to raise money for Sean Arlt’s 4 year-old son.  Arlt was killed in an officer- involved-shooting when he advanced officers with a metal bow rake last month.  Community members and volunteers gathered together at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center and played music and raffled off prizes in effort to raise money for Arlt’s son, Kellen.  The money raised will go into a fund for Kellen that will help supply support for immediate living expenses, preschool, and childcare.  

 

(09:20) Santa Cruz - Save Our Shores teamed up with community members to participate in a Beach Cleanup over the weekend.  Volunteers fanned across Cowell and Main beaches picking up cigarette buts, wine glasses and plastic utensils.  Volunteers have reported they have gathered as much 800 pounds of trash, in one day, during the summer months.   During the winter months there tends to be a decline of the amount of trash left on the beaches and volunteers estimate they collect between 50 to 100 pounds in one day.        

 

(07:10) Salinas - A gang member was arrested after he attempted to fleet during a traffic stop.  The incident took place last night near North Maderia and Roosevelt Street.   Police reported that three passengers ran off avoiding arrest.  However, The driver, 19 year-old Heriberto Rodriguez, was arrested.  Police recovered two guns.
