Dr. Wallach starts the show discussing weight gain and obesity.  Asserting that diets and exercise do not treat the root cause.  Contending that binge eating and the munchies are actually caused by nutritional deficiencies.

Pearls of Wisdom

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a news story regarding a research study done at the University of South Carolina.  The study found that women who ate the most grilled, smoked and processed red meats had a 47% increased risk of developing breast cancer.  Those that ate the grilled and smoked meats without eating a lot of fruits and vegetables had a 74% increased risk of developing breast cancer.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a couple of recent news stories.  The first concerns the story of a man in Britain that was told he had pancreatic cancer and had six months to a year to live.  So the man quits his job, stops paying his bills and goes travelling.  A year later the man was still alive and a second test gave him a clean bill of health.  Doug asserts that this story illustrates the importance of getting second opinions.  Next Doc and Doug discuss a news article concerning hazardous hospital waste that ended up in the local land fill.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent published report that found the busiest hospitals often had the most "adverse patient events".  In fact at one hospital for every 10% increase in patient-to-nurse ratio the adverse event ratio rose 28%.

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a two recent reports concerning osteoporosis drugs.  The reports that were published in the New England Journal of Medicine outlined increased risk of heart arythmias for women taking Fosamax and Reclast.  The researchers also found evidence that  Merck & Co. the maker of Fosamax knew of these risks as early as 1997.

Dr. Wallach discusses the iimportance of staying properly hydrated when working out or working outside when it is hot.  Asserting that it's not just water that is sweated out of the body.  But rather a nutrient rich soup that must be replaced.  Doc recommends Youngevity's "Sports Tech" and "Rebound FX".

Doug Winfrey and Dr. Wallach discuss a recent report published by the CDC that found percholate in all of 3000 people it tested across the nation.  Government agencies are finding this toxic chemical used to oxidize jet fuel in food and water supplies in 25 state.  Capital Hill is currently working on a bill that would mandate the EPA to stiffen regulations regarding amounts of percholate found in drinking water.  With this all going on researchers at Loma Linda University Medical Center are actually giving this same chemical to people involved in a clinical trial.  The amount given in the study is 83 times higher than drinking water limits in the state of California.
